Duduk: David Powe :: Guitar Loops: Marco
Previously unreleased
This song started with two guitar loops that I found in my sample library. Inspired by them, I made an Ableton file with the two guitar loops panned left and right. Over the course of four years, I would periodically open the file and experiment by adding different beats, chords and bass, but nothing would really grab me or propel me further other than the feeling that these were two really sweet guitar loops. One day in 2012, exhausted after finishing an epic film project for National Geographic, I found the inspiration to take the next few steps in the development of this song. During the film, I had bought an Ethno 2 sound library from Motu, and in this sample instrument I discovered these amazing duduk parts. Not all of them fit, but with some digital massage I was able to build a convincing performance. More importantly, the duduk melodies set the song – and my creative energy -- on fire, and in a few short days, the bass line, percussion and shape of the arrangement magically came together. A few days later, I played it for the first time during a full morning set at Lightning in a Bottle and witnessed people crying and coming up to me asking what the song was. It was a special moment.
Beyond excited to support this album on a vinyl release! Dersu the Trapper has always been my favorite Bluetech track, and makes me feel a way no other piece of music does! Max Klein
