Bass Samples: Kashoo

This is the song that galvanized the new direction in Indian bass music for me. A fusion of bass culture and devotional trance, this track sits squarely at the intersection of prayer and dancefloor. Giving myself the mission of creating a song using only Ableton (my normal approach is Logic with Ableton rewire slave), I set out to create a global sound using only found recordings in my hard drives and library. This song began with a sample pack from Kootenay-based group Kashoo. From there, a sample session given to me by David Starfire infused the bass idea with swing. Going back into the track for this collection, I re-warped the bass to reflect the high swing value of the new Indian percussion section, and added a live jam on my keyboard for the drum track (also quantized with the same high swing). After that, the rest fell into place in just a few days. The essence of Basswalla is the essence of me: living in service and dedication to craft, devoted to the process that is the fuel of creativity and daily practice.
